Neither of them is better, they just have different uses. A curse will generally do better than a pilgrim in a fight, but can't pick it's fights as well as the pilgrim. Which one is better depends on whether you -want to fly around solo in hosti...

Are you sure you're moving when aligned? If you're just pointing in the direction you want to warp to, your ship will start to position itself parallel to the grid again.

Thermal is their lowest base resist by far, but since most people cover that gap by fitting a thermic membrane your best bet would be kinetic, especially since you can fly ships that get a bonus to that type of damage.
